Angry Birds joins Freddie For A Day

We’ve been involved with Freddie For A Day, the AIDS charity setup in honour of Freddie Mercury since the beginning. Last year, we launched a Google Doodle. This year, we’ve teamed up with Angry Birds to celebrate the day in a true, fun Freddie way.

Check out the animation here.

FoodBeats launch

FoodBeats

We’re pleased to announce the launch of ‘FoodBeats‘, an online music tool for Lurpak® in partnership with Last.fm, generating and streaming recipe-based playlists for food lovers.

FoodBeats uses Last.fm’s unique scrobbling technology to provide users with music recommendations to fit with what they’re cooking up in the kitchen.

Dan Rutherford, our Creative Strategy Director, explains: “The inspiration for FoodBeats came about whilst discussing how contemporary foodies connect with their laptops in the kitchen environment to seek recipe inspiration, tips and advice, whilst listening to their favourite music. We were excited to act on this insight by developing a tool that links the food and music worlds in an innovative, useful way. Ultimately, FoodBeats provides new music and recipe inspiration in one place, further enhancing the modern kitchen environment.”

By partnering with Last.fm, Lurpak® will deliver food fans with specially selected songs to provide the perfect soundtrack to their cooking. So, for example, anyone cooking sausage and mash might be served up a playlist of 90’s Britpop.

We also partnered with recipe network, Foodily, to further enhance the campaign’s foodie credentials by suggesting recipes for complementary dishes and serving up connoisseur tips like adding a touch of chocolate to a chilli con carne.

Slurp for Victory!

iphonegame

Another launch day in the office, with our new iPhone app “Slurp” up on the App Store, just in time to use on your new iPhone 3GS! We’ve almost had around 100,000 people download our previous App for Cravendale, the Pocket Pirate, and are hoping this will follow in it’s success.

We’re pretty chuffed with this, it’s a lot of fun, and the perfect way to while away a bus journey. Try and top Edd’s high score of 14 if you can!

Oh and if you haven’t got an iPhone you can still play the game online at the Milk Matters site.

Slim Shady – In Augmented Reality

Last week saw the launch of an augmented reality (AR) competition for the launch of Eminem’s new album “The Relapse”. We put this site together in the Outside Line offices, and we’re pretty proud of it – in what we’re pretty sure is a world first, it’s an online AR talent competition, where users can log on, create a 3D “E”, which they can then spray paint and enter into the running for prizes.

The first round of the competition has already passed, with a trip to Detroit being dished out last week courtesy of Universal Music. The next round is open, and we’ve been promised another amazing prize will be awarded over the next month – watch the screencast above to see how easy it is, and then head over to the site to enter.

CREAM! (Get On Top)

sunflowers

Derek and Greg have been flat out grafting on a new site for Anchor Squirty Cream, which has gone live today. Part of the site is a user-generated area that allows you to create your own art using a custom fruit and cream toolset we’ve designed, which can then be uploaded to the gallery.

Whilst the toolset is great to use, what’s much more fun is the chance to get down, dirty and altogether messy by bringing it into the real world. We’ve asked some friends of ours to show us how it can be done, and already have a few art classics reinterpreted in the medium of squirty cream and fruit. Sunflowers (shown above) is a personal favourite, but now we’re asking everyone in the real world to muck in I’m hoping someone out there decides to go a little MS Escher on us …

Face Your F.E.A.R

To celebrate the launch of F.E.A.R 2: Project Origin, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is hosting its Whatisfear live event on Thursday 12th February 2009 at a secret haunted location in the UK.  F.E.A.R fans will be put through their paces in a unique gaming tournament where they will battle it out across several levels of the game whilst being brought face-to-face with their biggest fears.
Eight carefully selected F.E.A.R community fans will be flown in from across Europe to a secret haunted location where they will go head-to-head in an intense battle of gaming skills, strength and spine chilling F.E.A.R.
The eight lucky contestants have been picked from 100s of online applicants and as part of the application process were asked to cite their greatest personal fears. In effect, our eight participants have signed up to face their biggest fears head on at the event and it’s you, the general public, who will decide exactly what they are up against by voting online!

A unique environment has been carefully prepared for you, the community, to watch the event live and to determine the terrifying experiences each player must undergo whilst playing the game.

Eventually we will be left with one contestant, our winner, who will have to face their ultimate F.E.A.R. to claim their prize. Their F.E.A.R. is in your hands. Push them to their limits and watch every second of their reaction, LIVE online at www.whatisfearlive.com.

Studio Launch: Cravendale

Well it’s been a long time coming, but the new Cravendale site finally went live last night.

A mixture of animation and interactivity, the site has been one of our hardest technical flash builds in recent months. See for yourself by visiting the link or read on for more technical stuff.

The original idea for the site was to create a 2d ‘Cravendale World’ with which the user could interact. After much investigation it was decided to build the site for Flash Player 9 upwards and to use the box2dflash physics engine (a port of the box2d c++ library).

As one of the first sites we could find fully utilising this engine, the flash build started very much in the dark in terms of what could be achieved. However what we have produced (and what we plan to add in the future), hopefully demonstrates a little of what can be produced with this great physics library.
